Don’t call it a good ol’ boys club. He was an ass of his own accord, don’t let him drag the rest of us down by association.
You make a fair point and I did not intend to lump all males in science into that category. But treating this bias toward women and minorities in the sciences as a one-off occurrence isn’t completely fair, either. I think it’s great that many men in science (myself included) refuse to join, but that doesn’t mean a good ol’ boys club doesn’t exist. This particularly egregious example of disrespect is being used to draw attention to a more veiled and systemic problem, as it should be.
